Volunteering
There are several ways that you can help Home-Start Omagh District in a voluntary capacity:
- by supporting a family as a home-visiting volunteer
- by joining the Trustee Board
- by helping with fundraising
Home Visiting Volunteers
Home-Start Omagh District’s home-visiting volunteers come from many different backgrounds and vary in age but all are either parents themselves or have parenting or caring experience and are carefully selected for their friendliness and understanding. All volunteers are interviewed, provide two references, attend a preparation course and undergo an Access NI check before being matched with a family. They then take their own individual skills and experience to the families they visit. Our volunteers are non-judgemental, offering their time and friendship to local families.

This is the reason why I think it’s worthwhile. I got this text from the mum I support saying “I really have appreciated your help. You’ve made my mad house feel under control” (that’s just part of the text.) Isn’t that a lovely reason to be with Home-Start?
I really enjoyed the volunteer training course and felt it was perfect for me as we talked a lot about the different issues faced by families. The first family I was matched with were ideal…we had a lot in common and it was lovely to be needed and appreciated by the mum.
I’m now with my second family and they are very different from my first Home-Start family. It’s just like we discussed during the training…every family is different, and I feel very well supported in being able to support any family I’m matched with. I’m looking forward to getting to know my new family.

Volunteer Monitoring

Management Committee
The Home-Start Omagh District’s Management Committee is made up of local people from a wide range of backgrounds such as law, social care, HR, fundraising, education and business. The main requirements of a trustee are a real interest in the family support work we undertake and a willingness to be involved and active in the running of the charity. The committee ensures correct governance and is responsible for the financial security of the organisation.
